In most cases, rear-facing car seats will be seated in a window seat.

All infants/children secured in a car seat must be seated beside a guest 12 years of age orВ older,В and are restricted from some seats on the aircraft (for example over-wing exit row or bulkhead seats).

The infant/child must be secured in the car seat for taxi, takeoff, landing or whenever the seatbelt sign is illuminated.

Car seats may not be used in the Business section of the aircraft.

If you plan on having your child use a car seat on board the aircraft, you must purchase a seat on board for them.

When using a car seat, please remember that:

Only a cabin crew member is permitted to attach or remove the bassinet from the wall mount.

The infant must be lap held any time the seat belt sign is illuminated.

The infant cannot be left unattended in the bassinet.

The infant seat belt (safety net) must be fastened whenever the infant is in the bassinet.

The bassinet must not be used to store items or as a change table.В Service dogs, pets and carry-В onВ items areВ notВ permitted in the bassinet at any time.

Seats with a bassinet areВ only availableВ in the bulkheadВ row, and these seats do not haveВ under-seat storage.

The infant must only be a maximum of 25lbs (~9 kg), a maximum length of 26 in.

We would like to hear your thoughts on car seats and other child restraint systems on board aircraft for children under two years. Although not mandatory, the use of car seats on aircraft has been permitted in Canada since 1990. Children under two years may be held in an adultвЂ™s arms during a flight however, parents and caregivers may choose to restrain them in a car seat or other child restraint systems designed for use on board an aircraft. Seats and lap belts on board todayвЂ™s commercial aircraft are not well suited to safely restrain infants or children under a certain weight and/or height.

Transport Canada is conducting a review to consider the risks and benefits of making child restraint systems (car seats) mandatory on board commercial flights for children under two years.
